Located 150 kilometers (90 miles) northwest of Tehran, the city of Qazvin is famous for two things: being the former capital of the ancient Persian Empire and baklava, a rich, sweet pastry made with layers of filo and filled with chopped nuts. Qazvin was a capital of the Safavid dynasty for over forty years (1555-1598) and nowadays is known as the calligraphy capital of Iran. It is the 22th most populous city of Iran with the population of 596,932 inhabitants. The world’s major religions seem to intersect here as, in addition to countless historical mosques, Qazvin is home to the Russian Church, an Orthodox church built by the Russians during the Second World War, and Peighambariyeh, the burial site of four Jewish saints.

Mung bean and onion soup is another type of traditional ash(Iranian soup) in Qazvin which include no type of vegetable. It is so nutritious and rich in different vitamins and minerals. It is made with rice, mung bean and lentil, red bean, black-eyed pea, red meat, cinnamon, fried onion, salt, pepper as well as turmeric.
Located between the dry plains of Qazvin and the forested hills of Mazandaran Province, the Alamut Valley rewards those who spend some time hiking through it. Ovan Lake is one of the pristine natural lakes of Iran in Qazvin province, which shines like a beautiful jewel in the mountainous and pleasant climate of Alamut. The proximity of Lake Evan to Tehran has made it a great place for day trips and hosts hundreds of domestic and foreign tourists annually.
The lake is one of the wetlands under the protection of the Environment Organization and has been registered in the list of national and natural heritage of Iran.
Aminiha House and Hosseiniyeh is a beautiful luxurious house in Qazvin. This building was built in 1896 with two floors. In the middle of the building, three halls have been built, which run parallel to each other from east to west, and are located between the north and south courtyards. In the middle of the great hall, forty lamps are hung and the carpets of the hall are a real antique.
Halls are decorated with colorful windows, stucco, mirror work and Persian carpet.
Chehel sotun or forty pillars
Qazvin Forty Pillars Mansion is known as the Pergola Mansion in Qazvin. This building, which is the only surviving pavilion of the royal palaces of Shah Tahmaseb's time, is located in the center of Qazvin, in Azadi Square, and was known as the Pergola during the Safavid period, when Qazvin was the capital.
Grand Mosque of Qazvin
The Grand Mosque of Qazvin is one of the largest mosques and the oldest mosque in Iran. Actually it was built on a fire temple from the Sassanid era. In other words, this structure was first a fire temple that has been transformed into a mosque in the process of Islamization of Iran, and now most parts of the fire temple are in the south porch. This mosque is similar to the four porches that have been the symbol of fire temple structures in Iran.
sa'dol saltaneh Caravanserai
One of the most popular tourist attractions in Qazvin is sa'dol saltaneh caravanserai, which is the largest roofed caravanserai in Iran. It is situated in Qazvin bazaar and is one of the most important parts of it. It was constructed by Sa'dol Saltaneh in the Qajar period. It enjoys a vast courtyard and chambers surrounding it, a vestibule that is adorned with brick and tile-work. There you will find very attractive stalls that are decorated with beautiful wooden frames and you will find very exquisite Iranian products such as: wood industries, handicrafts, works of visual arts and calligraphy, etc.
The cantor church known as the "Bell Tower" was built as a Russian church in the late Ahmad Shah Qajar period by a Russian company in Qazvin. This church is Orthodox.
Traditional Grand bazaar of Qazvin
Qazvin Bazaar is one of the most well-known historical and traditional bazaars in Iran which is also one of the most important tourist attractions in Qazvin. It is also known as covered bazaar and roofed bazaar Of Qazvin. The complex was built in the Safavid period (Qazvin was once capital of Iran in Safavid period) and was developed in the Qajar era and gained most of its popularity during this period. Its architecture, beauties, mixture of arts and decoration will amaze each and every person. Most of the eye-catching decorations are special examples of brickwork and tiling.
Kharaqan towers are located in a large area, a short distance from each other and are similar in many ways. In the architecture of the towers, you can see about 25 types of decorative brickwork with different designs, some of which include wicker, chin, dormant, square knots, narrow foot square, and quadrangular.
There are also a number of frescoes and murals inside the old tower that are really valuable. In these paintings you can see drawings of a male peacock with a fan-shaped umbrella, six or eight-pointed stars, two peacocks facing each other, or two peacocks with long necks intertwined. Kharqan towers were registered in the national monuments of Iran on June 13, 1977 with the registration number of 2016.
Al Nabi mosque
This Mosque is located on the south side of Imam Khomeini Street and in the direction of Qazvin Bazaar and was built during the Qajar period. It enjoys three entrances in northern, western and eastern parts. The main entrance of the building, which is located on the north side, has a magnificent effect and is decorated with enamel and original style tiles and an azure tile inscription in Nastaliq script. One of the unique features of this mosque is the wide courtyard and naves, its architectural style and the stability of its construction.
Garmaglo valley is located in Qazvin province with the length of roughly about 600 meters. This valley is located on the way to Alamut Castle with the most breath-taking and spectacular scenery. The valley consists of two parts with a very small width and a wide part in the middle of these two parts.

Ali Akbar Dehkhoda
Allameh Ali Akbar Dehkhoda (1879–March 9, 1956) was a prominent Iranian linguist. Although he was born in Tehran, he was originally from Qazvin and known as one of the celebrities of Qazvin province.
He was also the author of Dehkhoda dictionary, the most extensive dictionary of the Persian language published to date. Dehkhoda translated Montesquieu's De l'esprit des lois (The Spirit of the Laws) into Persian. He has also written Amsal o Hekam ("Proverbs and Mottos") in four volumes, a French-Persian Dictionary, and other books, but his lexicographic masterpiece is Loghat-nameh-ye Dehkhoda ("Dehkhoda Dictionary"), the largest Persian dictionary ever published, in 15 volumes.
Hamdallah Mustawfi Qazvini was a Persian official, historian, geographer and poet. He lived during the last era of the Mongol Ilkhanate, and the interregnum that followed.

Mohammad-Ali Rajai (15 June 1933 – 30 August 1981) was the second President of Iran from 2 to 30 August 1981 after serving as prime minister under Abolhassan Banisadr. He was also minister of foreign affairs from 11 March 1981 to 15 August 1981, while he was prime minister. He was assassinated in a bombing on 30 August 1981 along with Prime Minister Mohammad-Javad Bahonar.
Abbas Babaei (5 December 1950 – 6 August 1987) was an Iranian Air Force pilot who served as Brigadier-General during the Iran-Iraq War.
General Abbas Babaei was killed on 6 August 1987, while in the rear seat of an F-5B while over Iraqi air space. He was hit by a 23 mm round of an air defense system on Sardasht air space, a city located in west Azerbaijan, Iran.
The memory of Babayi, who earned Shahid status for his untimely death, is preserved in the name of Shahid Babaee High School (Qazvin Sampad), his commemorative statute in Qazvin (shown at right), and in Tehran's Babayi Expressway.
