The Shahcheragh Holy Shrine, which was registered in the list of national monuments of Iran in 1942, is one of the sights of Shiraz that has a special place among Iranians, because Shahcheragh is the brother of Imam Reza. History of Shahcheragh Holy Shrine

The history of the construction of the Holy shrine of Shahcheragh is attributed to the time of Az-Dawla Dailami, one of the kings of Al-Buwayh, which dates back to around 929 to 949. During the reign of this king, the burial place of the Hazrat Shahcheragh was only a mound. During the reign of Atabakan of Fars Province, which coincides with the years 1226 to 1261, Amir Moqarrabuddin Massoud Badraldin, Minister of Atabak, decorated the appearance of Shaghcheragh Holy Shrine and built a tomb and dome for it. In addition, the construction of a porch was done by the order of Atabak. Queen Tashi Khatoon, the mother of Shah Sheikh Abu Ishaq Inju in 1344, ordered the construction and decoration of an impressive building in Shahcheragh Holy Shrine, which took five years.

In addition to that she ordered to build a very large courtyard with a tall dome, various sections such as a mosque, a school, a resting place for travelers in Shahcheragh Holy Shrine and a bazaar around it. An extensive restoration of the Shahcheragh Holy Shrine carried out in 1506; However, an earthquake 85 years later destroyed half of the shrine’s dome, which was rebuilt years later.

During the reign of Nader Shah in 1729, many restorations were carried out in Shahcheragh Holy Shrine and a large lamp of gold was hung under the dome. During the Pahlavi period in 1927, the inner walls of the Shahcheragh Holy Shrine were decorated with mirrors. A dome with a metal structure was built in Shahcheragh Holy Shrine by the National Monuments Association and the Persian Archaeological Office, which replaced the old dome of the tomb in 1957. Extensive construction operations were carried out after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Porch of the Shahcheragh Holy Shrine: The porch of the shrine is located on its eastern side, which is 38.30 meters long and 5.5 meters wide, has 10 columns with the 10.5 meters high. On both sides of the porch, 12 two-story rooms with the beautiful plaster working have been built. The two corridors on both sides lead to the Holy Shrine of Shahcheragh as well as this porch.

The Shrine: A silver-plated shrine was built for the Shahcheragh Holy Shrine during the reign of Fath Ali Shah Qajar in 1827, with a width of 1.75 meters and a length of 3.25 meters. The shrine was decorated with poems in Persian and Arabic in praise of the Imams. The next shrine of Hazrat Shahcheragh was about 10 cm higher than the surface of the shrine and was placed on a wooden box inside the shrine of green cloth. The shrine had a simple wooden frame, part of which was silver-plated, with silver nets on all four sides.

Minarets of Shahcheragh Holy Shrine: There are two minarets in the north and south of the porch of the Shahcheragh. Minarets head with a height of 3.65 meters, weighs about three tons and its metal frame is covered with copper and wood. The height of the minarets reache 20.40.
