History of Afif Abad Garden
Afif Abad Garden was one of the most important gardens in Shiraz and the seat of the kings of the time. Yaqub Khan Zolghadr; The ruler of Shiraz, during the reign of Shah Abbas Safavid, built strong forts in a part of the lands of Afif Abad Garden and used the stones of Jafarabad and Mosalla cemeteries to build this fort. After Safavid, this fort was destroyed and Afif Abad Garden lost its prosperity and development. In 1284 AH, by the order of “Mirza Ali Mohammad Khan Qavam al-Mulk”, the current garden mansion was built.
To irrigate the trees in Afif Abad Garden, he bought the Limak aqueduct, which was 15 km far from the garden in Qomsheh Palace. At the end of the last century, Afif Abad Garden was inherited by the niece of Ghavam al-Mulk, named “Afifa Khanum”, and since she made extensive improvements in Afif Abad Garden, the garden has been called “Afif Abad” ever since. The builder of current Afif Abad Garden is Mirza Ali Mohammad Khan Ghavam al-Mulk II in 1284 AH (1863 AD).
Afif Abad Garden was purchased from Farah Pahlavi in 1341 by the army. Afif Abad Garden was restored in 1348 under the supervision of the Cultural Heritage Organization and in 1370, at the same time as Army Day, it was reopened as “Military Museum No. 2” and Afif Abad Garden is now under the control of the ideological political organization of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Afif Abad garden was a perfect example of Iranian floriculture, which unfortunately today does not pay much attention to the floriculture and trees of the garden. Nevertheless, watching the soaring palm trees and all kinds of citrus trees in the large and beautiful Afif Abad Garden still makes you feel good.
