Vakilabad garden was known as Mirtaraz in the past. This old resort of Mashhad was actually a property that was donated to Mashhad Municipality by Haj Hossein Malek. Hossein Malek was one of the famous Iranian philanthropists who was born in Tehran. Many endowments such as Mashhad National Garden, Malek House of Mashhad, Chenaran and Torbetjam hospitals (and their endowments), Sabai Garden in Tehran and Malek Shahr Ray Palace have been left by Hossein Malek. So that there is an office called the Malek Endowment Office in Astan Quds Razavi.
Mashhad Municipality named one of the main squares of this city as Malekabad and this square is located near Malekabad Garden.
